Recently I was driving into San Francisco when I saw a hitchhiker along side of the road. He was waving a huge sign that read, "I Want to Be Anywhere BUT HERE!".
Have you ever wanted to be somewhere other than where you were? Have you ever wished you were living in someone else's skin?
I sure have. In fact, when I saw him standing alongside the road, thumbing a ride with that big sign, for a moment, it brought back memories of a time in my life, when all I wanted was to be anywhere but here. Somewhere else—anywhere else. I just didn’t want to be me, and I didn’t want to be where I was.
Wanting to be somewhere else is not always a bad thing. In fact, sometimes it propels us into taking actions that we'd never take, in order to change conditions that no longer serve us. But sometimes, wanting to be anywhere but where we are is a sign of deeper issues. That's what came up for me when I saw the guy with the sign. A time when I hated myself so much that all I wanted, was to be anywhere but here.
If you have read this far, you are probably ready for a change. Perhaps you need a career change, a relationship change, a change in your lifestyle, a change in how you live your life. Or maybe you are ready to go for a dream you've held in your heart for a long time. Whatever it is, if you have not acted on that deeply rooted dream in someway, I’d suspect, whether or not you know it, it has affected you in ways you can't imagine. The least of which, it has impacted the way you feel about you.
I've gone from self-loathing to self-loving. No it didn’t happen over night. In fact, it has taken years to change the woman that I used to be to the woman I am now. And while the journey has not always been fun, it has been worth the ride--every memorable step of the way.
Are you ready to take a small step out of the darkness into the light? It's a new year--2012, a time to get busy creating and living the life you want. I've been there and can help you get to where you want to be.
